The Plano Senior High School Men's and Women's teams both placed 1st at the 2010 District 8 - 5A Championships held on January 28th (Diving) & January 30th (Swimming).

In the swimming on Saturday, the Women's 200 Medley Relay team (Shirley Wang, Natalie Sanchez, Dayna Gettel and Alyssa Stubblefield) started off the meet with a win and the Women's Team as a whole went on from there to win all of the individual swimming events and then concluded with a victory by the Women's 400 Freestyle Relay team (Melissa Leonhardt, Marissa Konicke, Shirley Wang and Shannon Rogers). The Individual event winners for the Women were Shirley Wang (200 IM, 100 Backstroke), Marissa Konicke (50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle), Melissa Leonhardt (200 Freestyle) , Dayna Gettel (100 Butterfly), Shannon Rogers (500 Freestyle), and Natalie Sanchez (100 Breastroke). The Women's 200 Freestyle Relay (Lexi Farrar, Natalie Sanchez, Alyssa Stubblefield and Marissa Konicke) placed third in that event.

The Plano Senior High School Men's Team won two of their three relay events and seven of the eight individual swimming events. The Men's 200 Freestyle Relay team (Jason Wan, Nathan Chui, Mitchell Foster, and Seth Russell) and the Men's 400 Freestyle Relay team (David Kim, Seth Russell, Edward Hunt, and Jason Wan) both won their events. The Men's 200 Medley Relay team (Edward Hunt, Will Licon, David Kim, and Mitchell Foster) placed second in a very close finish in that event. For the Men, the individual event winners were Paul Leonhardt (200 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly), Will Licon (200 IM, 100 Breaststroke), Seth Stubblefield (50 Freestyle), Seth Russell (100 Freestyle) and Edward Hunt (100 Backstroke).

Qualifying for Regionals were all six of the relay teams, and individual competitors Melissa Leonhardt (200 Free, 100 Back), Maureen Hunt (200 Free, 500 Free), Paul Leonhardt (200 Free, 100 Fly), Seth Russell (100 Free, 200 Free), Shirley Wang (200 IM, 100 Back), Dayna Gettel (200 IM, 100 Fly), Deanna Marks (200 IM, 100 Fly), Will Licon (200 IM, 100 Breast), Edward Hunt (200 IM, 100 Back), Marissa Konicke (50 Free, 100 Free), Natalie Sanchez (50 Free, 100 Breast), Seth Stubblefield (50 Free, 100 Fly), Mitchell Foster (50 Free, 100 Free), Shannon Rogers (100 Fly, 500 Free), Ashley Ezell (100 Fly, 500 Free), David Kim (100 Fly, 100 Breast), Jason Wan (100 Free, 100 Back), Nathan Chui (50 Free), Brandon Edmondson (Diving), Lexi Farrar (100 Free), Alex Rejaee (500 Free), and Steli Flores (100 Back).

Shirley Wang was honored as District 8 Women's Swimmer of the Year. Seth Stubblefield was named District 8 Men's Swimmer of the Year. Coach Wiggins received District 8 Coach of the Year recognition.

Warmups are at 9:00 am with a meet start at 10:30 am. Diving was held today (Thursday, January 28th) at McKinney High School. The Plano Senior High School JV Men's and JV Women's Teams both won the JV District Championships held at the Allen pool on Friday, January 22nd. Congratulations to the athletes for their victories. The results have been posted on the Results webpage.

The Plano Senior High School Men's team placed 1st at North Zone TISCA on Saturday. The Plano Senior High School Women's team placed 2nd. For combined team scores, Plano Senior High was 1st.

Both the Men and Women won all three of their Relay events. For the Men, the 400 Freestyle Relay (Seth Stubblefield, Paul Leonhardt, Seth Russell, and Mitchell Foster) and the 200 Medley Relay (Jason Wan, Will Licon, Seth Stubblefield and Seth Russell) won those events with All-America Automatic qualifying times of 3:06.61 and 1:36.77 respectively. For the Women, the 200 Medley Relay (Shirley Wang, Natalie Sanchez, Dayna Gettel, and Alyssa Stubblefield) won the event with an All-America Automatic qualifying time of 1:47.01. The Men's 200 Freestyle Relay (Mitchell Foster, Jason Wan, Edward Hunt, and Paul Leonhardt) at 1:26.99, the Women's 200 Freestyle Relay (Marissa Konicke, Natalie Sanchez, Alyssa Stubblefield and Deanna Marks) at 1:39.22 and the Women's 400 Freestyle Relay (Deanna Marks, Shirley Wang, Shannon Rogers and Marissa Konicke) at 3:34.12 each won those events with All-America Consideration times.

Winning individual events were Paul Leonhardt (Men's 100 Butterfly - 48.73 and 100 Backstroke - 51.41), Seth Stubblefield (Men's 50 Free - 21.01), Will Licon (Men's 100 Breastroke - 58.27), and Dayna Gettel (Women's 100 Butterfly - 55.68) all with All-America Automatic qualifying times.

Additional All-America Automatic qualifiers were Shirley Wang (Women's 100 Backstroke - 56.58), Natalie Sanchez (Women's 100 Breaststroke - 1:04.87), Deanna Marks (Women's 100 Butterfly - 56.15 and Seth Stubblefield (Men's 100 Butterfly - 49.91 and 100 Freestyle - 46.19).

Also achieving All-America consideration times were Marissa Konicke (Women's 50 Freestyle - 23.98), Dayna Gettel (Women's 200 Individual Medley - 2:05.97), Deanna Marks (Women's 200 Individual Medley - 2:06.21), Seth Russell (Men's 200 Freestyle - 1:42.42), and Will Licon (Men's 200 Individual Medley - 1:55.14).

Other top performances in the championship finals included Shirley Wang (6th - Women's 200 Individual Medley), Edward Hunt (4th - Men's 200 Individual Medley), Mitchell Foster (2nd - Men's 50 Freestyle and 4th - 100 Freestyle), Shannon Rogers (5th - Women's 100 Butterfly and 2nd - 500 Freestyle), Steli Flores (6th - Women's 100 Butterfly and 4th - 100 Backstroke), Seth Russell (2nd - Men's 100 Freestyle), and Jason Wan (3rd - Men's 100 Backstroke). The second Men's 400 Freestyle Relay (Jason Wan, David Kim, Alex Rejaee and Will Licon) and the second Men's 200 Medley Relay (Edward Hunt, Trevor Lincoln, Chris Aselton and Nathan Chui) each placed 7th in their respective events.

Contributing additional vital points to the overall team effort from the consolation finals were Natalie Sanchez (10th - Women's 50 Free), David Kim (10th - Men's 100 Breastroke and 15th - 100 Butterfly), Maureen Hunt (9th - Women's 500 Freestyle), Edward Hunt (10th - Men's 100 Backstroke), Chase Gutknecht (15th - Men's 100 Backstroke) and three additional Women's Relay teams.
