Plano Senior High School captured both the Boys and Girls Relay Team of the Year honors on the 2009 Dallas Morning News All-Area Swimming and Diving Teams published in the Thursday, March 12th edition of the newspaper. The Men's 200 Free Relay (Paul Leonhardt, Kevin Yang, Seth Russell, and Seth Stubblefield) and the Girls's 200 Medley Relay (Shirley Wang, Natalie Sanchez, Dayna Gettel and Marissa Konicke) were recognized as this years All-Area Relay Teams.

Plano Senior High School also had eight individuals honored on the All-Area Teams.

Named to the Girls Teams were Sophomores Shirley Wang, Marissa Konicke, Deanna Marks and Freshman Dayna Gettel was recognized as Girls Newcomer of the Year.

Named to the Boys Teams were Junior Paul Leonhardt, Senior John Aselton, Sophomore Seth Stubblefield and Coach Wiggins was recognized as Boys Coach of the Year.

The 2009 TISCA All-State Team has been published and seventeen Plano Senior High School Swim Team athletes have been recognized in 29 events.

On the Men's team all three Plano relay teams were recognized: the Men's 200 Free Relay (Paul Leonhardt, Kevin Yang, Seth Russell, and Seth Stubblefield), the Men's 400 Free Relay (Paul Leonhardt, Jason Wan, Seth Stubblefield and Seth Russell) and the Men's 200 Medley Relay (John Aselton, Seth Russell, Seth Stubblefield, and Kevin Yang). Named for individual events were Paul Leonhardt (200 Free, 50 Free, 100 Free and 100 Fly), Seth Stubblefield (100 Fly and 500 Free), John Aselton (100 Back and 200 IM), Seth Russell (200 IM), and Edward Hunt (100 Back).

On the Women's team all three Plano relay teams also were recognized: the Women's 200 Medley Relay (Shirley Wang, Natalie Sanchez, Dayna Gettel and Marissa Konicke), the Women's 400 Free Relay (Marissa Konicke, Shirley Wang, Kelsey Konicke, and Deanna Marks) and the Women's 200 Free Relay (Marissa Konicke, Natalie Sanchez, Chloe Farrar, and Kelsey Konicke). Named for individual events were Shirley Wang (100 Back and 200 IM), Dayna Gettel (100 Fly and 200 IM), Natalie Sanchez (100 Breast), Deanna Marks (500 Free and 100 Fly), Marissa Konicke (50 Free and 100 Breast), Stelly Flores (100 Back and 100 Fly), Shannon Rogers (500 Free) and Melissa Leonhardt (200 IM).

The Plano Senior High School Swimming Men's team placed 2nd and the Women's team placed 6th at the Texas High School State - 5A Championships on February 27th - 28th in Austin.

Five new Plano High School records were set in the competition. The Men's 200 Free Relay (Paul Leonhardt, Kevin Yang, Seth Russell and Seth Stubblefield) won the 5A title in the event with an All-America Automatic qualifying and new school record time of 1:23.26 breaking the previous school mark set eighteen year ago. The Women's 200 Medley Relay (Shirley Wang, Natalie Sanchez, Dayna Gettel and Marissa Konicke) broke the school record set earlier in the season at the North Zone TISCA meet with a time of 1:43.51, an All-America Automatic qualifying time and the second fastest time ever in the event in state history. In individual competition, Paul Leonhardt broke both records he had set at the Region II meet two weeks ago. In preliminary competition, Paul swam the 200 yard Freestyle in an All- America Automatic qualifying and school record time of 1:36.86. In the 100 yard Butterfly, Paul swam an All- America Automatic qualifying and school record time of 48.38 to win the 5A title in the event. In a lead-off swim on the Men's 400 Free Relay, Paul Leonhardt also broke his other previous record set at the Region II meet and swam the 100 Free in a record setting 44.53r, also an All-America Automatic qualifing time. This Men's 400 Free Relay (Paul Leonhardt, Jason Wan, Seth Stubblefield, and Seth Russell) won the 5A title in the event with an All-America Automatic qualifying time of 3:04.55. The Men's 200 Medley Relay (John Aselton, Seth Russell, Seth Stubblefield, and Kevin Yang) placed 5th with a season best and All-America Automatic qualifying time of 1:35.24. The Women's 400 Free Relay (Marissa Konicke, Shirley Wang, Kelsey Konicke and Deanna Marks) placed 7th and in preliminary competition had a season best and an All-America Automatic qualifying time of 3:31.91.

All five of the Plano Senior High School relay teams swam times making the list of the 50 fastest swims in state meet history for their respective events. The Women's 200 Medley and Men's 200 Free are both 2nd all time and the Men's 400 Free is 9th fastest in the history of the state 5A championships. In individual competition, swims making the 50 fastest all time for their respective events were Paul Leonhardt (100 Butterfly - 48.38 and 200 Free - 1:36.87), Shirley Wang (Women's 100 Backstroke - 55.43), Seth Stubblefield (Men's 100 Butterfly - 49.90), Dayna Gettel (Women's 100 Butterfly - 56.23), and John Aselton (Men's 100 Backstroke - 51.29). Each of these swims was an All-America Automatic qualifying time. In State-5A meet history, Paul's 100 Fly time is 3rd and his 200 Free time is 4th all time while Shirley's 100 Back time is 8th fastest.

The Plano Senior High School Men's and Women's teams both placed 1st at the Region II - 5A Championships on February 12th - 14th.

Three new Plano High School records were set in the competition, all by Paul Leonhardt. Paul swam the 200 yard Freestyle in a school record time of 1:37.70 to win the event with an All- America Automatic qualifying time. In the 100 yard Butterfly, Paul swam a school record time of 48.50 to win the event with an All- America Automatic qualifying time. In a lead-off swim on the Men's 400 Free Relay, Paul Leonhardt swam the 100 Free in a record setting 45.60r, also an All-America Automatic qualifing time.

Other Region II - 5A champions in individual competition from Plano Senior High School, were Marissa Konicke (Women's 50 Freestyle - 23.76), Dayna Gettel (Women's 100 Butterfly - 55.74), and Shirley Wang (Women's 100 Backstroke - 56.40) all winning their respective events with All-America Automatic qualifying times.

As they did at Districts, the Plano Senior High School Men's relay teams once again won all three of their relay events at the Region II Championships. The three men's relay teams consisted of the Men's 200 Medley Relay team (John Aselton, Seth Russell, Seth Stubblefield, and Kevin Yang) - 1:36.91 (All-America Automatic qualifying time), the 200 Free Relay team (Paul Leonhardt, Kevin Yang, Jason Wan and Laurence Glenesk) - 1:27.15 (All-America Consideration qualifying time) and the 400 Free Relay team (Paul Leonhardt, Jason Wan, Seth Stubblefield, and Seth Russell) - 3:08.29 (All-America Automatic qualifying time). All three of the Plano Senior High School Women's relay teams swam All-America Automatic qualifying times and the Women's 200 Medley Relay team (Shirley Wang, Natalie Sanchez, Dayna Gettel and Deanna Marks) remained undefeated in Region competition this year with a win at the Championship meet with a time of 1:46.21. The Women's 400 Freestyle Relay team (Marissa Konicke, Shirley Wang, Kelsey Konicke, and Deanna Marks) placed second with a season best time of 3:32.43 and the Women's 200 Freestyle Relay team (Marissa Konicke, Natalie Sanchez, Chloe Farrar, and Kelsey Konicke) placed third with a season best time of 1:38.25.

In individual competition, Seth Stubblefield swam the Men's 100 Butterfly in an All-America Automatic qualifing time of 50.62 and took second in the event. In a lead-off swim on the Men's 200 Free Relay team, Paul Leonhardt swam the 50 Free - 21.04r in an All-America Automatic qualifing time. Achieving All-America Consideration times in other individual swims were Dayna Gettel (Women's 200 IM - 2:06.61), Deanna Marks (Women's 100 Butterfly - 56.86 and Women's 500 Free - 5:01.23), Seth Stubblefield (Men's 500 Free - 4:39.25), Stelly Flores (Women's 100 Backstroke - 57.81) and John Aselton (Men's 100 Backstroke - 52.41).

Qualifying for the Texas High School State Championships to be swum in two weeks are: Paul Leonhardt (200 Free, 100 Fly), Dayna Gettel (200 IM, 100 Fly), Marissa Konicke (50 Free, 100 Breast-Scratch), Deanna Marks (100 Fly, 500 Free), Seth Stubblefield (100 Fly), Shirley Wang (100 Back), John Aselton (100 Back), Natalie Sanchez (100 Breast), the Women's 200 Medley Relay, the Men's 200 Medley Relay, the Men's 200 Free Relay, the Women's 400 Free Relay and the Men's 400 Free Relay.

Congratulations to the Plano Senior High School Coaching Staff of Coach Wiggins & Coach Nelms who were named the Region II - 5A Coach of the Year.

An additional twelve swimmers contributed vital points to the overall team win in eighteen other event swims to secure the titles for both the Men's and Women's teams. The Plano Senior High School Men's and Women's teams both placed 1st at the District 8 - 5A Championships held on January 29th - 30th.

The Plano Senior High School Men's relay teams won all three of their events consisting of the Men's 200 Medley Relay team (John Aselton, Seth Russell, Seth Stubblefield, and Jason Wan), 200 Free Relay team (Paul Leonhardt, Jason Wan, Kevin Yang, and Laurence Glenesk) and 400 Free Relay team (Paul Leonhardt, Seth Stubblefield, Edward Hunt, and Seth Russell). The Women's relay teams won one of their three relay contests and placed second in the other two. The Women's 200 Medley Relay team (Shirley Wang, Natalie Sanchez, Dayna Gettel and Deanna Marks) remained undefeated in District competition this year with a win at the Championship meet.

Individual event winners were Shirley Wang (200 IM, 100 Backstroke), Natalie Sanchez (100 Breastroke), Dayna Gettel (100 Butterfly), Paul Leonhardt (100 Butterfly), and Seth Russell (100 Breastroke).

Congratulations to the Plano Senior High School JV Men and Women for 1st place finishes at the JV District 8-5A Championships on Monday, January 19th at Allen.

Plano Senior High School won each of the six relay events at the meet. The victorious Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay was swum by Anne Roselli, Camille Cowden, Jessica Liu and Bailey Brunson. The winning Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay consisted of Lewis Warne, Luke Terrell, Daniel Aselton and Amir Hamidfar. In the Women's 200 Freestyle Relay the team of Qiongqoing Yang, Maggie Kruder, Camille Cowden and Bailey Brunson swam to victory. The Men's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay that took the win included Ben Huang, Andres Olivero, Eric Wong and Amir Hamidfar. The top Women's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay was swum by Maggie Kruder, Bailey Brunson, Jessica Liu and Qiongqoing Yang. The Men's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay taking the gold was swum by Ben Huang, Andres Olivero, Eric Wong and Trevor Lincoln.

Individual Plano Senior High JV event winners were Daniel Aselton (200 Free, 100 Fly), Ben Huang (200 IM, 100 Free), Maggie Kruder (50 Free), Eric Wong (50 Free), Jessica Liu (100 Fly), Brendon Rudiger (500 Free), Anne Roselli (100 Back), and Luke Terrell (100 Breast).

The Plano Senior High School Women's team placed 1st at North Zone TISCA on Saturday. The Plano Senior High School Men's team placed 2nd.

Two new Plano High School records were set in the competition. The Women's 200 Medley Relay team (Shirley Wang, Natalie Sanchez, Dayna Gettel and Deanna Marks) won the event in a school record time of 1:45.82 which was also an All-America Automatic qualifying time. In individual competition, Natalie Sanchez (Women's 100 Breastroke - 1:04.38) set a new school record in winning the event with an All-America Automatic qualifying time.

Also winning events were Paul Leonhardt (Men's 100 Butterfly - 49.55) with an All-America Automatic qualifying time, the Men's 200 Medley Relay (John Aselton, Seth Russell, Kevin Yang and Jason Wan) and the Men's 200 Free Relay (Kevin Yang, Paul Leonhardt, Nathan Chui, and Laurence Glenesk) which won with an All-America consideration time of 1:27.72.

Additional All-America Automatic qualifiers were Dayna Gettel (Women's 100 Fly - 56.48), Shirley Wang (Women's 100 Back - 56.60) and the Men's 400 Freestyle Relay (John Aselton, Jason Wan, Paul Leonhardt, and Seth Russell) with a time of 3:11.36.

Also achieving All-America consideration times were Shirley Wang (Women's 200 Individual Medley - 2:07.49), Paul Leonhardt (Men's 200 Freestyle - 1:42.34), the Women's 200 Freestyle Relay (Natalie Sanchez, Chloe Farrar, Kelsey Konicke and Marissa Konicke) with a time of 1:39.12 and the Women's 400 Freestyle Relay (Deanna Marks, Kelsey Konicke, Shirley Wang and Marrisa Konicke) with a time of 3:34.86.
